Poison Arrow or Poison dart frog is a common name for the family Dendrobatidae. Made up of over 173 species of toxic frogs, they get their name from the historical use of the toxic secretions for the tips of blowdarts. Typically smaller than average frogs they can range from .50 to 2.5 inches and generally weigh about 2 grams. Most exhibit brightly colored skin, to warn predators of their toxicity.
